53th ANNUAL ICE FISHING SAFARI

Feb 9, 2019

Welcome to the 53th Annual Ice Fishing Safari.  It looks like we will have ice this year, as of today 1/27/19, we have about 5 inches of ice and the weather forecast looks good.  Looking at the 10 day forecast it looks like we should have good ice but there may be some precipitation in the time frame of Safari but that is still 10 days out.

I’m hoping we will have our usual ice games like Bucci and ice golf.  The Connecticut Golf team has continued to dominate the last couple of years but I understand Brent has his team in tip top shape for the opening round.

We expect to have Bucci games again this year, as is tradition when we have playable ice.   For the seniors we may even had Bucci sticks so they won’t have to get down on their knees to play.

We have about 6-7 New Stars this year and I hope their sponsors have had them practicing their figure 8’s.

You may want to think about bringing a lawn chair as it looks like there will be about 60 guys this year and a comfy chair by the fire is always nice.

It would be great if the Bald Eagle made an appearance and circled over low as we were doing the "Right of the Oar" as it did two years ago.  It certainly looked like a sign from the guys in the chair and on the Oar.  Sadly we have 3 guys to add to the Oar this year, Mike Mazza, Steve Bohn, and John Barron will all be missed.  They were great guys, may they rest in peace.

It is not clear yet if Miss Piggy will be with us or not.  She was last seen flirting with that very Fresh Ham who was putting some moves on her.   Time will tell.

Again this year we will have both the scud bucket and the powder room for those that might want to partake.

Jim Reynolds and his partners will have his way with the “rookies” and when that is done Brian Cohen will take over and work with them on their figure 8’s.

Don will have the eggs popping first thing in the am and follow it up with lunch as only Don can do it.

As always many thanks to Vinny for the cover, Jim for the web-site,  video and chili, Al Florio for picking up the rolls, Andy and Ken for doing the collections and all the cooks especially Don Meteja, Tony Martone and John Lemke.  And to Carl Didone ,Tony Cicheti and John Lemke and others that helped get the area set up for the party.  And to all of you who do the extra things to make this the great party that it is.
